How to Make a Spa Towel Wrap

I am going to be a freshman in college next year, and unfortunately I will no longer have my own bathroom. Instead I am going to be sharing a bathroom with 30 other girls. Walking back and forth between my room and the bathroom could get awkward in the case that your towel slips. To fix this I decided to make a spa towel wrap that Velcros around me to stay up.

Materials You will Need: Towel, Measuring Tool, Shears, Velcro, Elastic, Pins, and Ribbon (Optional). Also you will need a sewing machine and thread to match the towel and the ribbon.
Step 1: Fold the towel lengthwise then measure 10 inches in from the fold.
Step 2: Mark your towel on both sides from 10 inches in. When you unfold the towel you should have a 20 inch space between the two pins.
Step 3: Fold the towel down 2 inches and pin from one pin to the other than sew the 20 inches (marked by green above) to create the casing for the elastic.

Step 4: Take 12 inches of elastic and pull it through the casing until it gathers like the third picture. I recommend pinning the ends of the elastic to the towel; that way the elastic won't slip back into the casing before you sew it.
Step 5: Sew down the edge of the casing to keep the elastic in place. Make sure you don't miss the elastic when you sew.

Step 6: Next, fold down the rest of the towel, that is not part of the casing, down two inches. Pin it, and then sew down the edge (not the fold).

Step 7: Now it is time for the Velcro. I like to use 12 inch sew on Velcro strips. You must pin the strips on each side of the towel. Make sure they are placed on opposite sides lengthwise and one on the front then flip it over and put the other one on the other side. Test the towel wrap around yourself to make sure the Velcro is placed correctly.
Step 8: Sew the Velcro onto the towel using a wide zig-zag stitch. If you are worried about it possibly falling off then sew two straight stitches down each side of the Velcro.
Step 9: This is an optional step to add some decoration to the towel wrap. I decided to add some ribbon. I just cut it to the length of the wrap and sewed down each side of it to attach it to the towel.

Then tada your are ready to hit the pool or shower!
