Closet Organization and Cleaning

Since I am about to move away to go to school, I thought I would clean out my closet and get rid of some things before I have to pack up. I didn't realize how messy and unorganized my closet was until I took everything out of it.
This was the disaster of a closet before.
I took everything out of the closet except my graduation gown.

Taking everything out meant that I was eternally trapped in the corner of my room.
After filling two trash bags with junk and a tote bag full of stuff to donate, I was ready to start putting stuff back into the closet. On the top shelf, I have my American Girl dolls from when I was little, a basket full of other toys I don't want to throw away, but I don't actually need. The wicker basket on the right is empty, but it will be helpful if I ever need to put something else up there.
There is a smaller shelf in the middle of the closet that used to have a second bar hanging from it. I decided to put my baseball caps, scarves, nail polish, and jewelry box on this shelf. They all fit nicely and are out of my way, but still easy to get to.
My nail polishes are in a shoebox size storage box that I got at Target. My collection is starting to get too big to fit in the box though. Uh-oh!
Underneath the shelf that has always been in the closet there is about 2 and a half feet of empty space and then a wire shelf that we installed after we moved in. On the very right side of the wire shelf, next to the wall, I have a few of my bigger handbags. There is a Kate Spade on and a Dooney and Bourke. Next to that, there is a plastic bin(I'll go over that in a second), and on top of the big are 2 wicker baskets. The left hand wicker basket has some of my smaller handbags, wristlets, and wallets in it.
The wicker basket on the left side is home to all of my beading supplies, and a cup from my first communion. This basket sits atop my container of beads.
The plastic bin just contains random things that I feel like I may need but not often, and some sentimental items that I can't part with. You can see from this picture that I have a heating pad, a Christmas stocking, a steering wheel cover, some wrist braces, and a tutu. That proves that there is no organization in this bin at all.
To the left of the plastic bin are two more wicker baskets. This one contains school or work supplies such as, my computer box, a dictionary, a thesaurus, file labels, notebook paper, pens, and cd's.
The other wicker basket is much smaller and perfect for CD's.
On the floor next to the wire shelf, I have a shoebox full of memorabilia like programs, ribbons, pictures, and random things from throughout the years. On top of that, I have some duffle and tote bags. And next to those at the front of the closet are my rain boots.
Underneath the wire shelf I have some of my shoes. They are stored in these plastic shoe boxes I got for less than $2 at the container store. They are perfect because you can see the shoes through them and they are very easy to stack. My boots and tennis shoes are above those plastic boxes, and all of my sandals and flip flops are in that Ugg box on the far left.
Now for my clothes. I want to point out that my clothes are split 50/50 between my mom's house and my dad's, so if they were all in one place I probably would have gotten rid of more than just one bag full of them. My clothes are organized by type then by hue. From the left to the right I have: formal dresses, casual dresses, skirts, jeans, tank tops, short sleeve shirts, cardigans, button-up shirts, and long sleeved shirts. Then after that they are organized darkest to lightest. This set up makes it very easy to find things that I am looking for.
I also like to use the trick of flipping your coat hangers backwards and you flip them back to normal after you wear the garment. Every six months I like to go in an see which clothes haven't been flipped, so its easy to see what needs to be donated. However, there are times when I convince myself that I'll wear it next month, but they usually just get donated the next time I go through my clothes.

I took out all of my crafting supplies and moved them to a different part of my room because the drawers were getting too heavy for the wire shelving.
