DIY Makeup Brush Roll

These makeup brush rolls are super easy to sew. You just need 2 pieces of fabric and some ribbon. They are a lifesaver when traveling or storing your makeup brushes!
Step 1: Choose two corresponding fabrics. I find that picking up fabric squares is the easiest way to do this because they are already the perfect length. I have chosen a striped fabric and a flower fabric that came in a fabric square bundle.

Step 2: Cut the fabric pieces to 21" wide and use a makeup brush to test how tall you want the fabric to be. Place the brush on the fabric and fold the fabric up so that the bottom edge of the fabric is touching the bottom of the metal part of the makeup brush.

Step 3: Mark the fabric 2 inches above the top of the brush and cut it so that it is that height. I used a Bare Minerals brush and my fabric was cut 16" by 21".

Step 4: Put the fabric pieces right sides together and pin all around the edge.

Step 5: Mark a 3"-4" section of the fabric, so you can remember not to sew over it. This will be used later on to turn the fabric right side out.

Step 6: Using a straight stitch, stitch all around the edge of the fabric starting from one end of the marked off section and going to the other. Don't forget to backstitch.

Step 7: Flip the fabric inside out.

Step 8: Sew the opening closed using a straight stitch and making sure to keep the stitch very close to the edge of the fabric. I used the edge of the presser foot as a guide.

Step 9: Now you must choose which fabric you would like to be the interior fabric and which you would like to be the exterior. Once you have decided, lay your brush down on the side that you chose to be the interior, and fold the fabric up so that the a pocket is created to house the brush.

Step 10: Pin the along the side of the fold you created in step 9.

Step 11: Sew down the sides of the pocket, but not along the bottom. Use a straight stitch and remember to backstitch at the beginning and the end.
Step 12:  Now that your pocket is created, you must sew individual pockets for each brush. Starting at either the left or the right side of the roll, mark ever inch and a half to 2 inches. This should be plenty of room to fit one large brush and multiple small brushes in each pocket. I would recommend leaving a larger pocket at one of the ends for buffer brushes or other makeup tools.
Step 13: The main part of your brush roll is now done, so all that is left is sewing on the ribbon. Choose any ribbon you would like and cut it to about 22"long.

Step 14: You will sew the ribbon onto the center of the brush roll right above the brush pockets. I used a straight stitch and created an "x" to make sure the ribbon was secure.

Step 15: Put your brushes in and roll it up. You're done!
